Confronting Subsurface Cisternae in Chick Embryo Spinal Ganglia
نویسنده
چکیده
Subsurface cisternae (SSC's) have been described in several types of conduct ing tissue (1-6), and in a cul tured neoplastic cell line (7). In some of these cases (2, 3, 7), paired SSC's appeared opposite each other in apposing cells, a configurat ion referred to as subsurface confronting cisternae (7). This note demonstra tes the existence of SSC's in a t ransient confronting configurat ion in a developing normal ver tebra te tissue, the sensory neuroblas t of the chick.

Electron Microscopy of Oral Cells in Vitro
Two special areas involving membranous components in strain KB cells were studied by electron microscopy. The first area described is that of the subsurface regions of two apposing cells in which flattened cisternae (one cisternae in each subsurface region) with membranes spaced 110-230 A apart were found in a confrontation alignment. The long dimension of the profiles of these cisternae ranges...
متن کاملA freeze-fracture study on the developing satellite cells of spinal ganglia in the chick embryo.
A freeze-fracture analysis of the satellite cells of spinal ganglia of the chick embryo was performed in 8 successive stages of development, from the 5th incubation day to hatching. The characteristic laminar disposition of the cells were first observed on the 7th day. Tight junctions were found at the 20th incubation day. Small groups or irregular aggregates of particles, but not gap junctions...
متن کاملSpecific innervation of neurons in the paravertebral sympathetic ganglia of the chick.
I have explored the chick sympathetic system as a model for the study of specific synapse formation by examining the pattern of ganglion cell innervation by preganglionic axons in 2 different ganglia. Using intracellular recording and HRP labeling techniques, the innervation of the 12th and 15th cervical ganglia (C12 and C15) was examined. Sympathetic ganglion cells of the chick are innervated ...

?In vitro Experiments on the Effects of Mouse Sarcomas 180 and 37 on the Spinal and Sympathetic Ganglia of the Chick Embryo? were experiments conducted by Rita LeviMontalcini [3] in conjunction with Viktor Hamburger [4] and Hertha Meyer [5] and published in Cancer Research in 1954. In this series of experiments, conducted at the University of Brazil [6] , Levi-Montalcini demonstrated increased ...
متن کاملThe lack of effect of basic and acidic fibroblast growth factors on the naturally occurring death of neurons in the chick embryo.
In vivo treatment of developing chick embryos with acidic and basic fibroblast growth factors (aFGF and bFGF) failed to affect the differentiation and survival of several populations of developing neurons in the CNS and PNS. All of the neuronal populations examined are known to undergo naturally occurring cell death, and they include spinal and cranial motoneurons, dorsal root ganglia, sympathe...
